Thank you to all that joined us at the second memorial service.  We were blessed by friends, family and wonderful weather.  It was wonderful to see friends and listen to the stories.  I especially appreciate that following the service people stayed and visited with each other.  I know that Dad was enjoying watching it all.  A special thank you to Paul Gatewood for his insightful and encouraging words, Suzanne Story for sharing her exceptional musical talent, and to the Blue Knights - I know Dad loved hearing the bikes coming in.

Dad's monument was put in place the day before Thanksgiving 2005.  While it was a very sad moment it was also very satisfying to see that the custom design turned out very nice.  I think it is a very fitting tribute.  The photos are rather large but worth the wait.  Please click here if you would like to see the monument.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Harold N. Taylor succumbed to injuries suffered in a March 4, 2003 motorcycle accident.  He leaves us with a legacy of devotion to family and community.

Harold served for 42 years as a member of the Masonville Volunteer Fire Department, where he reached the rank of Assistant Chief.  He began his law enforcement career in 1969, eventually serving one term as sheriff and five terms as jailer.  Throughout his law enforcement career he had many accomplishments.  He served as the president of both the Kentucky Sheriffs' Association and the Kentucky Jailers' Association.  He was the only Jailer in the United States to consistently operate a dentention center without local tax dollars.  Jail surplus funds accumulated through his terms were used to construct and pay for the majority of the new detention facilities.  One of his proudest moments as Jailer was the fiscal court dedication of the first building on the complex as the Harold N. Taylor Restricted Custody Facility.  He was instrumental in drafting many pieces of legislation that were subsequently passed into law.

In his memory, the family has established an endowed scholarship fund for Kentucky residents pursuing a criminal justice career.  Memorials may be sent to the Harold N. Taylor Scholarship Fund, KWC, 3000 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY  42301.  Checks should be made payable to Kentucky Wesleyan College.
